Your data and your consent
<!-- order: 4 -->
Smaht is built so your home's data stays in your home.
- On your Smaht Edge: readings, devices, users, settings and the activity log live in its own database, on your hardware. Backups are yours.
- Smaht Cloud knows only what you send it: your account, the Smaht Edges you link (their public key, the name you give them), and what their heartbeat says while that consent is on.
- Each kind of data is a separate consent that you switch on or off on your Smaht Edge. New kinds of data (for example update notices or off-site backups) will each come with their own switch, off until you choose otherwise.
- Sign-in: your password is stored only as a hash; two-step sign-in keys and recovery codes are encrypted. You can also sign in with Google, Microsoft, Apple or GitHub; Smaht Cloud then keeps only that service's id for your account.
